Meatfare Sunday Luncheon February 19th 2012

Today’s Fellowship Hour will feature a Gyro Luncheon sponsored by the Antiochian Women. Cost is $7.

Presantified Divine Liturgy Soup

During Lent, we offer Divine Liturgy at 6:00 PM. Immediately following the service, join us for soup in Fellowship Hall. Soup Makers are needed - so if you have a specialty soup you would like to prepare and share, sign-up on the sheet in Fellowship Hall.

Prom Gown and Formal Wear Drive

Now through March 23, The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is once again sponsoring a drive to collect slightly used prom gowns and formal wear to benefit Angela’s Angel’s (a non-profit project whose purpose is to provide prom wear to locally economically disadvantaged junior and senior high school girls).

RSVP is now accepting new and gently worn gowns and prom accessories for Angela’s Angels. It is suggested that the gowns be clean, but it is not a requirement. Tax receipts can be issued upon request. Please contact RSVP at 724-925-4152 or 724-925-4213 if you have any questions.

Gowns and accessories are being accepted at these locations:

· RSVP– Commissioner’s Hall, Community Development Office

· Bushy Run Ed. Center—Main Desk

· Laurel Ed. Center—Main Desk

· Mon Valley Ed Center—Main Desk

· New Kensington Ed. Center—Main Desk

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS!

FOCUS PITTSBURGH is looking for volunteers interested in assisting with all phases of the SPRING 2012 fundraiser. Please contact Joanne Jamis Cain at 412.498.1607 or jcain21@yahoo.com if interested.

Your talents would be greatly appreciated! Whether you have a small or large amount of time to devote, please consider helping with this worthy cause!

Additional Branches

Additional “branches” for the church’s Phone Tree are needed. The “Branch” serves as the lead person in contacting a select group of parishioners in the event of a death in the congregation, or other church emergency. See Valerie Flizanes if you are willing to become a “branch”.

Save Your Labels

We are collecting “Labels for Education” and “Box Tops for Education” for the Clairview School, Greensburg. Clairview educates special needs students (autism, spinabifida, cerebral palsy, blindness, mental retardation, etc.). The labels project is ongoing. Collection baskets are set up in the fellowship hall along with lists of eligible products.

More information can be found at: www.boxtops4education.com and www.labelsforeducation.com.

Address questions to Marilyn Elias or Diana Roberts.

CHURCH SECURITY ALARM

Please note that our CHURCH SECURITY ALARM is now turned on automatically every evening and 10:00 PM (though you may find it armed at an earlier time). If you are in the building at 10:00 PM, you will hear a warning signal which let’s you know you have two minutes to punch your security code into the keypad to allow you an additional hour before the alarm is armed. Questions about this should be addressed to Fr. John.

International Orthodox Christian Charities - Unique and Effective!

The assistance is unique. IOCC does not just give aid, but provides the means for people to continue the help themselves. For example, IOCC gives plows and seeds so that a farmer can keep on providing for his family.

· IOCC is helping everywhere – from rebuilding hurricane damages homes in the Southwest U.S to Haiti, many places in Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

· 93 Cents ($0.93) of every dollar gets used, because of volunteers

· Each donated dollar is multiplied 7 times through matching funds from many sources

· All Orthodox jurisdictions in the U.S. are involved in the work of IOCC.

For more information on IOCC, see Fr. John or Pete Papas.

Caleb\'s Cupboard

In addition to the food you have been bringing to “Caleb’s Cupboard,” We’ve been informed of the need for other items - like toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo and toilet paper. Items collected will be distributed to the poor in our area through the Greensburg Christian Laymen’s Corps (Urania Ave.). A small emergency supply will be kept in a room downstairs for distribution in “emergency” when the Layman’s Corps is not open. Members of our church parish may also access that emergency supply for themselves and their neighbors. Help us ease some suffering with your donation.

Be Part of a Family Mission Team

This year the Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC) is proud to announce a collaboration with the Center for Family Care (of the Greek Archdiocese) by offering a Family Mission Team. Families from North America, along with Albanian families, will participate in this outreach assisted by OCMC missionaries and Albanian church leaders. The primary focus is to offer a “family witness” while sharing the faith and growing as a family in Christ. Consider being part of this first OCMC and Center for Family Care collaboration and family mission witness! Visit http://teams.ocmc.org, or

e-mail teams@ocmc.org, for more information or to apply.
